Building and Testing REST APIs in the AI Era with Spec-Driven Development

This talk demonstrates how Spec-Driven Development (SDD) with Kiro IDE is particularly well-suited for building RESTful APIs together with their unit tests. Instead of treating testing as a follow-up activity, specifications become the single source of truth from which both API behavior and tests are derived.

The session includes a guided walkthrough of the Kiro IDE, showing how requirements are captured as structured specifications, transformed into API design, and then into executable code and unit tests under explicit developer control. Attendees will see how specifications evolve into living.

Lernziele

This talk aims to demonstrate how AI-assisted Spec-Driven Development with Kiro IDE can be used to design, implement, and unit test RESTful APIs as a single, coherent workflow. Participants will learn how specifications become the source of truth for both API behavior and tests, how AI supports traceability and quality, and how developers and testers retain full control while embedding testing into every stage of API development.
